Indian government forcing gold trade underground

It looks like this trend is not abating. Reuters has a story about how Indian gold smugglers are taking on the tactics of drug smugglers to bring gold into India, where the continued high demand is making a burgeoning black market as the government tries in vain to stop its (fiat) currency from being converted to (tangible) gold by its population.
